A Slap of the Truth

“God exists whether or not men may choose to believe in Him. The reason why many people do not believe in God is not so much that it is intellectually impossible to believe in God, but because belief in God forces that thoughtful person to face the fact that he is accountable to such a God.” — Robert A. Laidlaw

“God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.

So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.”

(Romans 1:18-25 NLT)

A life lived in autonomy is a life lingered in abomination.

Red Loves Blue

“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.”

(Ephesians 4:2-3 NLT)

“We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright; some have weird names, but they all have learned to live together in the same box.”

Loving others despite our many differences makes life meaningful and colorful.

Seriously Simple

Why do simple things become complicated?

It is simply because of those complicated simple people who make simple things simply complicated.

“But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do,
what God is looking for in men and women.

It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor,
be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don’t take yourself too seriously—
   take God seriously.”

(Micah 6:8 MSG)

Life is short. Don’t make it shorter. Simplify it. Maximize it.

Live it simply for God.

Heart Issue

Worship is an outflow of the very core of our hearts — the outcry of the meaning and purpose of our existence.

An act solely for and as a manifestation of who and what we truly value. Boiling down and pointing to the only one and unique subject of the quintessential worth and weight of glory — God.

Worship then, is returning to Him what is rightfully His.

This is a heart issue.

“When I worship, I would rather my heart be without words than my words be without heart.”

Lifestyle for a Lifetime

“There is no other activity in life so important as that of prayer.                                 Every other activity depends upon prayer for its best efficiency.”

–M.E. Andross

“…pray continually.”

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Prayer is a lifestyle — Learn it. Love it. Live it.

Dear X (Love’s Letter)

Love is here. Love is now.

Love is pouring from his hands, from his brow.

~Tenth Avenue North~

Dear Brokenhearted, I have felt your pain. You are strong and brave. See these scars. I took all of the bullets.

Dear Downtrodden, your pain isn’t hidden from me. You have so much to live for. Come here and I’ll raise you over the mountain peaks.

Dear Hurting, stop crying. I’m right here by your side. You need no longer weep, for I have taken up your pain.

Dear Oppressed, do not hide.  Spread your wings and soar the great heavens. Stand up and I will fight for you.

I love you all so much.

Sincerely yours forever,

When the good becomes bad and the storm is over yonder

We think that God abandoned us and thoughts alike we ponder

But we forget that it’s never God who goes and walks away

So when we feel alone sometimes it’s because we chose to stray

“I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

Fuel of Life

Hate has been the driving force that fueled my life. It  took me to the places I needed to be to prove myself and reach my goals. I am a machine, and hate is the fuel that keeps my engine running. But hate is like water to an engine, it corrodes, rusts, and rots until it succumbs to the inevitable – destruction.

Beaten and broken, I lay stranded in the dust. Rust spread within me like wildfire in a dry and deadened forest. Joints and parts unable to move from corrosion and wear. But God’s love, like premium fuel and engine oil, sleek and powerful, brought me back to the road. slowly scraping away any trace of rust inside me, God’s love has made me road-worthy again.

I am a well-oiled machine. God’s well-oiled machine.

“God does not love us because we are valuable, but we are valuable because God loves us.”

Love Can See

The world says that love is blind, that love cannot see the flaws of a loved one.

But the way I see it, Love can see everything, from the sweet caring ways to the irritating impatience of a loved one. And He chooses to accept, embrace, and love both the pure and clean; the dirty and putrid.

Regardless of what this world thinks, I strongly believe that Love is all-encompassing.

Spiritual Poverty

Returning to God is a journey and that journey always begins with the realization of your own spiritual poverty.

It is understanding that you are completely bankrupt and destitute, spiritually, and that you can do absolutely nothing to deliver yourself from your dire situation of sin. It is only when you grant that acknowledgment in that condition that you begin to see the reality that maybe, you really do need a Savior.

This is why Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit” and this is why, probably one of the most profound statements that Jesus makes in His parable, The Story of Prodigal Son, is the line,

“…when he came to his senses…”

Luke 15:17

Freedom for Free

Bitterness and resentment have been great companions of mine. They have never let me down. They have always been the drive I needed to keep moving forward,

or so I thought…

They were holding me down. It was not until I let all my ill-feelings go and let God work His miracles in my life that I truly understood what it meant to be free.

“It is a fact that the Lord Jesus has already died for you. It is also a fact that you have already died with the Lord Jesus. If you do not believe in your death with Christ, you will not be able to receive the effectiveness of death with Him – freedom from sin.”

–Watchman Nee

Me vs. Me

Ain’t no killer like pride.

No killer like I.

No killer like what’s inside.

Within the deepest recesses of my being, a fierce battle is fought.

I am my enemy. It is me against me.

I am the war inside. I am the war I fight.

The world forgets the heart.

But I remember…remember that this is where the combat begins.

Underneath the skin, underneath all hopes and achievements, every battle comes from the fight within.

Like A Ninja

D.L. Moody, who was not a very educated man, made a very educated point.

He said, “If a man is stealing nuts and bolts from a railway track, and, in order to change him, you send him to college, at the end of his college education, he will steal the whole railway track.”

The problem of man is not the brain; it is the heart. God makes that very clear. That is why His solution for us against this problem is both very simple yet specific:

“Guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life.”

Proverbs 4:23

Love takes Risk

If you are afraid to get hurt when you love, think again.           C.S. Lewis put it this way:

“If you want to make sure of keeping your love intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness.

But in the casket – safe, dark, motionless, airless – it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.”

It’s impossible to love and never get hurt. Even the love that the cross carried has a message that to love is to take every risk, to unravel every differences and to unchain every fear. If we refuse to love, bitterness and the feeling of emptiness will reside in our hearts.

If you choose not to love,  not only you will be hurt, but the people you could have loved will be hurt in ways you may never know.

“We love each other because He loved us first.” 1 John 4:19 (NLT)

Mess to Message…

“The more we let God take us over, the more truly ourselves we become – because he made us. He invented all the different people that you and I were intended to be.

It is when I turn to Christ, when I give up myself to His personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own.”

— C.S. Lewis

In Christ… I am a new creation, from…

Nothing to Something;

No one to Someone;

Nobody to Somebody.
