Real life has problems. God will protect us from some of them but He also will walk us through most of them. He reminds us that in this Christian life, we will experience pain. But He also reminds that we are called to live through suffering and not with it.
We are not to go around carrying sorrow in our hearts meeting occasional joys. We go around carrying the eternal joy in Christ and although there may be certain times of sorrow, these will never displace the happiness and peace that God has given us.
For the Christian, joy remains central. Sorrow, at best, is only marginal.
“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
1 Peter 5:10
