Dunamis

In 1866 Alfred Nobel invented an explosive made of nitroglycerin absorbed in a porous material. It was by far the most powerful explosive that had so far been invented.

When Nobel and his friends saw what his invention could do, and had to decide on a name, they sought for the strongest possible word for power–in any language. The word they finally chose was the Greek word “dunamis”, from which our word dynamite is derived.

This word, in Greek also the strongest word for power, is used again and again in the New Testament for the power of Christ, the Gospel and the Christian life.

— Paul Lee Tan ({4536}, “Encyclopedia of 15,000 Illustrations”)

Philip Yancey grasped the very essence of why dunamis was used for Christ when he affirmed that “no one who meets Jesus ever stays the same.” For the strongest power one could ever imagine belongs to the One who created it.

“I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him.

Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

(Ephesians 3:16-19, NLT)

Footprints in My Heart

“Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family.” — Proverbs 18:24 (MSG)

Friends are like families. They are God-given people; undeserved gifts that can only be met by a simple gratitude of sincere love.

Friends who would always be there to pick you up. Always there to back you up. Always there to push you forward. Always there. Always…

Thank God for them.

The Whole Armor of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

Ephesians 6:10-11 (ESV)

Life is a battlefield. If we go out to war inadequately equipped and protected, it would be difficult to survive; hence, it is imperative that we as God’s soldiers take up His Whole Armor for us—

The Belt of Truth, The Breastplate of Righteousness, The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace, The Shield of Faith, The Helmet of Salvation and The Sword of the Spirit

…then pray at all times!

…a paradox.

“You never lose by loving. You always lose by holding back.”

— Barbara De Angelis

…For love has always been selfless.

Taking Up My Cross

Take honor in suffering for Christ.

“And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.”

Drop of Difference

“No act of kindness is too small. The gift of kindness may start as a small ripple that over time can turn into a tidal wave affecting the lives of many.”

Do I Look Good Enough?

Kids nowadays are more worried about their swag, than professing Jesus’ name.

T.H.I.N.K.

Is it …TRUE?

       …HELPFUL?

       …INSPIRING?

       …NECESSARY?

       …KIND?

“There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking.”

— Proverbs 29:20 (NLT)

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

— Robert Frost

The World: Dream away. Follow them and work hard for them and you will get whatever you want.

Christ: Give up your dreams for me and I will grant you something that’s beyond your wildest imaginations.

When I Found Myself Wanting

I’m a long way from home

Brown barked neighbors replaced by grey stone

I’ve got all I need in my purse

I’ve gained freedom from my curse

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

I walk the winding dirt road

Towards my pasture where I lay my load

This is my life, I do to it whatever I want

No more cages and thorns, I recant

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Happiness, happiness, happiness, that’s what I need

Not crosses, not nails, not persecution after a good deed

Sex, booze, coke; rock the party on

I’m my king; I’m my lord; I’m my don

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

I wake up to the golden sun

I’m no different; I’m still the wild, crazy son

I check my green bag, found bare leather

Quiet filled the houses as I pass hither

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

I settle beside filthy swine

Carousing and reveling as they dine

I share with their dirty chow

My crown falls in humbled bow

Because of my wanting and desiring

I have become my undoing

No more cages? Bah! I am my prison

No more thorns? Bah! I am my double-edged weapon

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

I walked headlong to my curse

My life only became much worse

Life for a lie, that’s what I gained

Searching for happiness was all but vain

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

I come upon a hill far from hidden

It seemed familiar, by nostalgia was I bitten

A lone figure, gloriously waited on a throne

He didn’t budge, didn’t cast the first stone

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

He threw away his radiant crown

Stripped all his royalty and regality down

He stumbled, was bruised and bled as he ran to me

Hoisted me up to his shoulders as if I was once again a baby

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Upon his back I see the world anew

And although I still sin, I’ll never meet my fiery due

Compared to his overwhelming grace, my wrongs are but a few

He’ll always be there, ready to run towards me and to you too.

Mouth Speaks

“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

– Luke 6:45  (NIV)

Her mouth speaks from that which fills her heart.

What’s in your heart?

Bloodstained Hands

Our hearts have doors through which God wants to pass into.

But still, we push Him away.

However, no matter how sharp the thorns and spikes we put on our door,

He will still knock.

“Love…always perseveres.”

— 1 Corinthians 13:7

Pains of the Past

“Dwell in the pains of the past, and you become a prisoner of depression.”

“Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago. Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already you can see it now!”

 — Isaiah 43:18-19

Trust God’s goodness and mercy and start pleasing Him today.
Wash those bitter tears away. Drop the throbbing luggage of the past.
Remember that God gives us the strength to overcome the difficulties of the past, the present, and the future.

God Knows

“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.” —Psalm 56:8 NLT

People live in a world of heartache, pain, suffering, and longing. We live a life full of complaints and frustrations. We think that nobody understands us and that nobody can help us but ourselves.

That is when we are WRONG.

God understands all our pains and  frustrations. He knows every reason behind our heartaches and every solution to our problems.

He MADE us. He KNOWS us deeply.

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you.”

                                                                                                                                 —1 Peter 5:7, NLT

Place your problems in God’s hands. He will NEVER let you down.

The Tale of Two Sons

Unfelt truth is just as dangerous as rejected truth.

The son who stayed was just as lost as the son who left.

“He ran to his [lost] son…

…So the father went out and pleaded with [his elder son].”

— Jesus (Luke 15:11-32)

For our unrighteousness and self-righteousness can never save us. Only His righteousness can.
